Christmas Countdown Calendar and Jesse "Tree"

Last year at this time we were in the middle of moving and didn't have our normal Christmas tree. So we were borrowing a small Charlie Brown style one and made ornaments following the Jesse Tree tradition. This year I wanted to make a Christmas countdown calendar and I realized we could incorporate our Jesse Tree symbols all into one. We're following these devotionals, using these symbols, and at the end of the day instead of putting the symbols on a tree, we put them over one of the numbers on our countdown calendar. Seems to be working well and is a great way to end the day!

the calendar I put together just using a large white piece of paper and red and green construction paper

What are your family's traditions leading up to Christmas??

  1. We bought this for Addie this year!! http://www.fisher-price.com/fp.aspx?st=900000&e=storeproduct&pid=51245

It has been wonderful and she loves it!! You can use it to teach colors, numbers, animals, and most of all.... The story of the birth of Jesus. I think it will be a family favorite for years to come!!

We also have started the tradtion of opening one present each on Christmas Eve. And then we read The Christmas Story (about the birth of Jesus) then we read Twas the Night Before Christmas.

We also buy her a Christmas ornament every year for the tree (with the date on it of course).... she will get all of her to take with her when she gets married!

  2. Such a great idea! You are so creative!

Caleb came home with a santa picture to use to count down the days. We're putting the cotton balls on it but we've been talking about the reason we have Christmas. I got out paper for both him and Daddy. Each day they draw a new picture in the Nativity scene to countdown to Christmas. So far we've drawn the manger, hay, and barn. We'll draw baby Jesus on Christmas.
