I saw this at Java Mama's blog a couple months ago and was inspired to start a goals list, and then today I saw it again at Amy's blog, so I decided to get back to it. What's "IT", you say? Read on...
The Mission: Complete 101 preset tasks in a period of 1001 days.
The Criteria: Tasks must be specific (ie. no ambiguity in the wording) with a result that is either measurable or clearly defined. Tasks must also be realistic and stretching (ie. represent some amount of work on my part).
Why 1001 Days? Many people have created lists in the past - frequently simple goals such as new year’s resolutions. The key to beating procrastination is to set a deadline that is realistic. 1001 Days (about 2.75 years) is a better period of time than a year, because it allows you several seasons to complete the tasks, which is better for organizing and timing some tasks such as overseas trips or outdoor activities.

Some common goal setting tips:
1. Be decisive. Know exactly what you want, why you want it, and how you plan to achieve it.
2. Stay Focused. Any goal requires sustained focus from beginning to end. Constantly evaluate your progress.
3. Welcome Failure. Frequently, very little is learned from a venture that did not experience failure in some form. Failure presents the opportunity to learn and makes the success more worthy.
4. Write down your goals. It clarifies your thinking and reinforces your commitment.
5. Keep your goals in sight. Review them frequently, and ensure that they are always at the forefront of your thinking.

I just discovered there's an actual website for this 1001 Day Project! So go check out others who are doing this, finish your list, and then add it to the master list!
Sarah, your list sounds great and I see so many things that I need to implement in my life. Especially, limiting computer time, reading the book a day to the girls and the financial stuff. This is very inspiring, thank you!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Julie
Yay! Another 101 list! Isn't it such a great idea. I feel so much better after writing down a list of goals for the next three years. Fun! I like your list a lot, I think I'll be stealing some goals off of yours for myself!
ReplyDeleteI love reading the 101 lists. Let's root each other on.
ReplyDeleteI've been enjoying your blog, but believe I have mostly lurked.
What a great idea! Your list is impressive and inspiring. I am a list person. Maybe I'll jump in and do this, too.
ReplyDeleteGood Luck with it all! As for selling some baby things, is there a Once Upon a Child near you? We've sold some things there recently.
Wow, that's quite a list! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteHi Sarah!
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure if you remember me, but I went to Wartburg when you did. :) I was reading your 101 list and I love it! I was wondering about the Supermarket Savings 101 course. Do you know anyone who has done it? Is it worthwhile? Part of me thinks it looks a little fishy, so I wanted to get your take on it!
Thanks!
