A new week

A week ago I was pretty down in the dumps about life and marriage.  God was really revealing a lot of things to me about myself.  It was good but it was hard.  I was able to share those thoughts with Kevin. And we had a great weekend as a family, including a date night out.  Who cares that we just went out to eat, Target, Lowes, dessert, then home.  It was just the two of us, and during that time we talked about what other dates we might do.  I really want to try for every two weeks if we can at all POSSIBLE squeeze some time in, even something little.  I left the weekend feeling excited, excited for a growing relationship with my husband, and feeling hopeful for what's to come.  Gosh, sometimes I feel like I'm bipolar cuz now this week I feel zest for life. I gave Kevin a simple card, thanking him for his hard work over the weekend and of course telling him that I love and appreciate him.  And I've also got some ideas brewing for how we can better connect with other friends from church, since Kevin is often gone on Sundays.  Lots of growth coming for all of us, I hope.  So cheers to this new week!

Proud of you. I sometimes feel "bipolar" too - mostly with the kids for me. Some days are so good and they go so smoothly, and then other days I'm pulling out my hair and screaming and yelling and nothing is working and it makes me wish I worked full time instead of being home. Yesterday was an awesome day, and today has been awful and it's only 9 am. I need to make sure that my heart is in the right place each day, because I'm sure that the bad days have more to do with me than with them. :-/

I have been sorting through my stuff and came across a notebook full of articles and I saw this one that I thought might be helpful. It was written for college students, so not all of the suggestions are appropriate for you, but maybe they will inspire other ideas.

20 Free Dates
by Suzanne Hadley
Who says you need money to have a great date? Try these fantastically free frolics.
1. Most cities have some type of event going on almost every weekend. Check your local paper for a fun outing near you.
2. If the guy you're getting to know has an artistic flair, spend an evening creating homemade cards using paper, markers and other creative supplies.
3. Get your cafeteria meals to go (but don't take a tray). Grab a blanket, and eat at a park.
4. Visit a free museum or natural site visitor center.
5. Play a game. Maybe a childhood favorite such as Monopoly, Candy Land or Chutes and Ladders.
6. Volunteer at a soup kitchen or shelter for an evening.
7. Take a walk in the rain.
8. When the sun's out, go on a hike. You can find oodles of public trails at www.trails.com
9. Take turns reading a chapter of a classic fiction book. Try Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis or Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien.
10. Play in the snow.
11. Spend a day visiting local landmarks and posing for silly photos.
12. If your guy has a sense of humor, dress up to greet him (flashback to the '70s or '80s, or become a hillbilly or circus performer). You can do this when he joins you to study or when you're picking him up at the airport.
13. Check out a farmer's market. Many vendors offer free samples.
14. Find out about free concerts your music department is giving. Wear your best, and enjoy a cultural experience! (Or plays at a town, high school, or college theater)
15. Work a puzzle.
16. Visit another college campus. Check out the library, cafe, chapel and other features. Unfamiliar campuses are a great place to strike up conversations with new, interesting people.
17. Check out art or photography books from your college library, and discuss them.
18. Grab a coloring book and some crayons, and have a color-fest.
19. Ask a group of friends to cook dinner - maybe in your dorm kitchen or a friend's home. Working together for a tasty end result - what could be better?
20. You have to study anyway. Pop some popcorn, and hit the books together.

Thanks Charity! So thoughtful of you to share these ideas! I have a date idea BOOK that I've been going crazy trying to find this week because I KNOW we have it but it's missing from the book shelf!
