I'm 23 weeks pregnant, have gained almost 10 lbs already, and am trying hard to keep watch of my weight gain. Unlike my husband, I gain weight REALLY easily and have to be careful. And not that I have problem gaining weight during pregnancy, I just don't want to gain EXTRA weight making it unhealthy for me AND baby, not to mention making it harder to lose the weight post-pregnancy. My goal is to not gain more than 5 pounds each month, but lately I have been pushing that. So it's time to get serious and actually work on it. So this week I have goals for myself. If you know me at all I love making lists of goals, whether it be life goals, marriage goals, parenting goals, nutrition goals, etc. So here are my 5 goals for this week:

Pregnancy Goals:
1. Walk TWICE a day, once with Eli and once by myself. I usually take Eli out every morning, but yesterday morning (before church even) I got to go for a walk by myself, without pushing a 40 lb stroller, and it was wonderful! I felt like I was flying! I didn't have to worry about bumps, curbs, or cars, and I could actually pump my arms as I walked instead of holding on to the stroller handles.
2. Weigh myself every morning.
3. Drink 8 glass of water a day. This is really hard for me to do, so if it means adding a tsp of lemonade mix to make it taste a little better, then so be it!
4. Eat healthy snacks--yogurt, fruit bar, carnation drink, carrots, grapes, apple, broccoli, cauliflower, toast--NO ice cream, cereal, cookies, or other dessert
5. Moderate meal size--half portions at restaurants

Hi Sarah!

I commend your dedication and attention to your health! However, please remember that it is normal for a woman to gain 40 pounds throughout a normal pregnancy (1 pound per week), so try not to stress about what the scale says. Also, your weight can vary each day simply by water weight (which can happen quite a lot during pregnancy). As long as your committed to eating healthy and getting exercise, you shouldn't feel too terrible about the numbers on the scale - besides, you look great!!

Yeah, about a pound a week is right. BUT you don't start gaining weight until the third month or so.

Thanks for sharing the links to the Floretine Manicotti and Mexican Lasagna. I'll definitely be trying those out in the near future. And I think it's so great that you take such great care of your body/health, esp. during your pregnancy. BUT, relax, you look great! :-D

KUDOS!! You're goals are great!! Getting the walking done will help shed pounds afterwards...I found that to be the absolute best and recommended by sooo many midwives! I'm having trouble with my goals...didn't lose the weight after last baby and barely keeping it right here. I found that it really doesn't matter how much you put on (gained 40 with 2nd and lost 50 in 2 months after he was born...biked and walked TONS) it matters how you care for yourself!! GOOD quality food and water and exercise. I think I will be checking in with your post JUST to keep up with you. You are my new inspiration to keep going!! Thank you!! Blessings, Mrs. C.

Sarah,

I don't know what it is like to gain weight that quickly in pregnancy. I only gained 17 lbs. total with Lily and 20 with Claire and that was all after the 5th month. I had severe sickness (all day & night long) with both of them. I actually lost weight until they put me on antinausea medication. So, I don't know what you are going through but I do know that you are to be commended for taking these steps now. The more you take care of yourself now the less trouble you will have with the birth and after the birth. So, I am proud of you! :o) Also, I am going to have to try that Mexican lasagna! You just made me hungry.:o)

Love and Prayers,
Julie

Thanks for the recipes... The lasagna sounds yummy!

I gain all my weight in the beginning. And lose in the end. Weird, huh???
